History

Talijancich estate in located in the beautiful Swan Valley wine region of Western Australia.

The area was explored in 1827 by Captain James Stirling later to become governor of the Swan River Colony. Stirling was so impressed with the area that he wrote in his diary:

"...the richness of the soil, the bright foliage of the shrubs, the majesty of the surrounding trees, the abrupt and red colour banks of the river occasionally seen, and the view of the blue mountains, from which we were not far distant, made the scenery of this spot as beautiful as anything of the kind I have ever witnessed."

Tim Talijancich, the founder of the vineyard, arrived to Western Australia from Croatia in 1926 to start his new life. The Talijancich estate was found in 1932 when Tim Talijancich and his wife Ljubica Svetanovich, purchased their Swan Valley Vineyard and proceeded with their first vintage, making fortified wine from Muscat and Shiraz.

Peter Talijancich continued his father’s legacy, working in the vineyard since he was 13 years old. Gaining experience and learning from great winemakers like late Jack Mann, Peter started quickly gaining reputation for premium fortified wines, in particular Vintage Port, Sherry and Liqueur. He received many awards both nationally and internationally for his Muscat and Pedro Xeminier.

After 50 vintages and Peter’s retirement his son James joined the family business in 1977, bringing focus to table wines like Verdelho and Shiraz, while retaining their range of liqueurs.

Today, Talijancich continues to evolve, understanding and respecting the importance of the ‘Vineyard’ and ‘Region’.

They were the first winery in Western Australia to receive biodynamic certification.

Talijancich produces outstanding variety of table and fortified wines. From youthful and vibrant Verdelho Liqueur, to the 10 year old White and Red Liqueurs, right through to the benchmark 1961 Solero Reserve Muscat and 1965 Solero Pedro Ximenes.

James Talijancich receives many awards for his outstanding liqueurs every year. The latest 2017 awards include Gold for Rare Tawny, 2007 Vintage Perdo Ximenes and Julian James 1961 Reserve Muscat Solero.
